DIY Natural Flea Repellent Spray
This is a natural repellent, not a registered flea treatment — the distinction matters and is stated clearly on the recipe card. For dogs in low-risk environments it provides meaningful deterrence; for dogs in high-risk areas, veterinary prevention should be used alongside it or instead. The Essential Oil combination works through olfactory disruption — fleas navigate by scent, and these compounds make that navigation difficult.
HERO INGREDIENT — Cedarwood Essential Oil
Cedarwood Essential Oil contains cedrol and other sesquiterpenes that have well-documented insect-repellent properties — specifically against fleas, ticks, and mites. It works by disrupting the insects' pheromone receptors, interfering with their ability to locate and navigate to a host. It's one of the safest Essential Oils for use on dogs at appropriate dilution, but is harmful to cats — this spray must be kept away from any feline household members.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Eucalyptus Essential Oil — adds repellent depth and a clean, medicinal scent quality — not suitable for cats or for use on dogs with respiratory conditions
Organic Witch Hazel — alcohol-free astringent that helps disperse the Essential Oils into the water base and leaves the coat feeling clean after application
Cleaning Vinegar — acidic carrier that creates an environment on the coat surface that insects find uninviting and helps the formula distribute evenly
