DIY Nursery Room Spray
This is the one recipe in this chapter that uses an Essential Oil — and it does so at an ultra-low ambient concentration, in a room spray that is never used directly on or near baby. Roman Chamomile at three drops in 100 mL, dispersed into the air of a room before baby enters, is a considered and conservative application. The Hush blend was developed with exactly this kind of use in mind.
HERO INGREDIENT — Polysorbate 20
In a room spray, Polysorbate 20 is not optional — it's what makes the formula safe to use around soft furnishings and fabrics. Without an emulsifier, Essential Oil droplets remain undispersed in the water and spray onto surfaces as concentrated spots that can stain fabric and create uneven distribution in the air. Polysorbate 20 fully solubilises the oil into the water, ensuring a fine, even mist that disperses safely into the room environment.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil — used at ultra-low concentration — 3 drops per 100 mL — for ambient diffusion only; calming and among the safest Essential Oils for use in infant environments
Distilled Water — mineral-free carrier that prevents residue on surfaces after the mist settles
I RECOMMEND TRYING IT WITH HUSH
Hush — Lavender angustifolia, Sweet Orange, Bergamot FCF, Roman Chamomile, and Cedarwood Atlas — was developed specifically for ambient use in spaces where very young children are present. It is the only blend I would recommend for a nursery room spray: gentle, non-stimulating, and formulated with infant safety as the primary consideration.
