DIY After-Sun Soothing Gel
Sun exposure depletes the skin's moisture, triggers an inflammatory response, and accelerates surface cell damage — all of which need different interventions. This gel addresses all three: Aloe cools and repairs, Panthenol restores moisture within the tissue, and the light gel texture absorbs without heat. Refrigerate it for the most effective version of the experience.
HERO INGREDIENT — Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera contains compounds that interrupt the inflammatory cascade triggered by UV exposure — including bradykinase, which reduces inflammation, and aloesin, which inhibits melanin production that causes post-sun darkening. Applied generously to sun-exposed skin, the gel's water content cools the surface while the active compounds begin working on the tissue beneath. It's one of the few ingredients that is genuinely effective rather than just soothing by sensation.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Panthenol — Vitamin B5 that penetrates into the dermis and binds water within the tissue — addresses the deeper dehydration that sun exposure causes
Vegetable Glycerin — humectant that draws additional moisture to the skin surface and extends the hydrating effect
Peppermint Essential Oil — optional — creates an immediate cooling sensation on application; omit for children under 3 and sensitive skin
Geogard ECT — preservative essential in this water-based formula — do not omit
