The fewer ingredients in a product going into a newborn's bath water, the better. This soak uses three — and each one is there for a reason. Bicarb softens the water and balances pH to be closer to what newborn skin needs. Fractionated Coconut Oil provides a lightweight layer of skin conditioning. Vegetable Glycerin helps both disperse evenly. Nothing else is needed, and nothing else should be added for the first three months.
HERO INGREDIENT — Bicarbonate of Soda (Food Grade) In bath water, Bicarbonate of Soda performs two functions relevant to infant skin: it softens hard water by neutralising minerals that would otherwise leave a residue, and it shifts the pH of the bath water slightly toward the acidic — closer to the pH of healthy newborn skin. This matters because water at a neutral or alkaline pH can disrupt the developing acid mantle that protects infant skin from environmental bacteria.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT) — lightweight oil that conditions the skin surface during bathing — leaves a very faint protective film that doesn't require rinsing
Vegetable Glycerin — humectant that helps the oil disperse evenly in the bath water and draws moisture into the skin surface
