DIY Dog Coat Conditioning Spray
Between baths, a conditioning spray can keep a dog's coat manageable, reduce shedding tangles, and leave the coat looking well-maintained without any of the work of a full wash. This formula uses Aloe and Fractionated Coconut Oil for conditioning, glycerin for moisture retention, and a single dog-safe Essential Oil for a light fresh scent. No rinsing required.
HERO INGREDIENT — Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera in a coat spray provides the same conditioning benefit for dog hair that it provides for human hair: its polysaccharide content coats and smooths the hair shaft, reducing static and tangles, while its water content adds immediate moisture. For dogs it has the additional benefit of being completely safe if ingested during grooming — which is a non-negotiable requirement for any leave-in product applied to a dog's coat.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Fractionated Coconut Oil (MCT) — lightweight conditioning oil that adds shine and manageability to the coat without leaving a heavy or greasy residue
Vegetable Glycerin — humectant that retains moisture in the hair shaft and extends the conditioning effect between applications
Sweet Orange Essential Oil — optional — dog-safe at this concentration; adds a light fresh citrus scent; keep away from cats
