Yield Per use · Difficulty Beginner · Time 10–15 minutes
Ingredients
1 tablespoon Bicarbonate of Soda (Food Grade) per 2 litres of water
Cold tap water, about 2 litres (enough to submerge the produce)
Method
Fill a clean basin or bowl with cold water; about 2 litres, enough to submerge your produce.
Add 1 tablespoon of Bicarbonate of Soda for every 2 litres of water and stir to dissolve.
Submerge the fruit or vegetables and soak for 10–15 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly under cold running water before use.
Equipment
Clean basin or large bowl
How to use
Use with all fresh produce before eating, cooking or storing. Do not soak very delicate herbs or mushrooms for the full time; a brief rinse in the solution is sufficient.
Storage
Mix fresh each time. Do not store the solution.
Safety
Always rinse thoroughly after soaking. Not a substitute for washing root vegetables with a brush. Keep out of reach of children.
