A streak-free cleaner for windows, mirrors and glass surfaces
Streak-free glass is one of those things that sounds simple and somehow isn’t, until you understand why commercial formulas work. The answer is alcohol. This recipe uses Isopropyl Alcohol alongside vinegar to evaporate quickly and completely, which is what prevents streaking. The result is genuinely better than most things I’ve used from a bottle.
Yield 500 mL · Difficulty Beginner · Time 5 minutes
Ingredients
350 mL Distilled Water
120 mL Cleaning Vinegar
30 mL Isopropyl Alcohol
10 drops Clarity Essential Oil Blend (optional)
Method
Add the Distilled Water to the spray bottle.
Add the Cleaning Vinegar, then the Isopropyl Alcohol.
Add the Clarity Essential Oil Blend if using.
Swirl gently to combine.
Label with product name, date made and flammability warning.
Equipment
500 mL spray bottle (clean)
Measuring jug
Microfibre cloth
How to use
Spray onto glass or mirror surface. Wipe immediately with a clean microfibre cloth using circular motions. Buff dry for a streak-free finish. Do not use on anti-reflective or coated screens.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place away from heat sources and open flames. Use within 12 months.
Safety
Isopropyl Alcohol is flammable; keep away from open flames. Ensure ventilation when mixing. Do not use on natural stone surfaces (marble, granite, travertine); the vinegar and citrus oils will etch the surface. Do not use on coated screens or lenses. Keep out of reach of children.
What else is in this recipe
Cleaning Vinegar dissolves hard water deposits and mineral film that build up on glass and mirrors over time
Distilled Water prevents the mineral deposits that tap water can leave on glass surfaces
Lemon Essential Oil optional, adds a fresh scent and light grease-cutting support
