DIY Hair Styling Pomade
Most commercial pomades are petroleum-based — literally refined crude oil with synthetic fragrance added. This formula uses beeswax, shea butter, and a carrier oil to achieve hold and texture without any of that. It builds with application, provides a flexible medium hold, and conditions hair while styling it rather than coating it in a film.
HERO INGREDIENT — Organic Beeswax Pellets
Beeswax provides the hold in this pomade. When warmed between the palms it becomes workable, coating hair fibres and holding them in place as it cools and sets. The hold is firm but not rigid — beeswax allows restyling throughout the day because it re-softens with warmth. It also adds a natural sheen without the wet look of heavier waxes.
WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE
Refined Shea Butter — softens the beeswax to a workable consistency and adds conditioning properties — prevents the pomade from feeling stiff or drying
Jojoba Oil — liquid carrier that keeps the formula spreadable and adds shine without greasiness
Vitamin E Oil — antioxidant that extends shelf life and contributes to the conditioning effect on hair
Essential Oil — optional — adds fragrance; choose something you want to smell throughout the day
I RECOMMEND TRYING IT WITH BOTANIC EMBER LIGHT
A pomade is handled, warmed, and worked through hair with your hands — the scent needs to be present but not overwhelming at that proximity. Botanic Ember Light's soft citrus and Cedarwood base stays in the right register: noticeable when you're making it, gentle once it's in.
