DIY Leather Conditioner

Leather needs fat to stay supple — left dry, it cracks. Most commercial conditioners use petroleum-derived oils or silicone that coat the surface without actually penetrating. This recipe uses Jojoba Oil and beeswax, which are close enough in molecular size to the oils in natural leather that they absorb properly and condition from within.

HERO INGREDIENT — Jojoba Oil
Jojoba's molecular structure closely resembles sebum — the natural oil produced by skin and, historically, by the animal hides that leather comes from. This similarity means it penetrates leather rather than sitting on top of it, restoring suppleness from within. It also has an exceptional shelf life for an oil, which matters in a product you might use infrequently.

WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS RECIPE

Organic Beeswax Pellets — forms a protective barrier over the conditioned surface, locking in moisture and providing a light natural sheen

Vitamin E Oil — antioxidant that extends the shelf life of the formula and helps protect leather from oxidative damage

Essential Oil — optional — adds fragrance; Cedarwood suits leather particularly well and has natural preservative properties
