DIY Melt and Pour Soap Bars

A simple customisable soap using a ready-to-use melt and pour base

Yield Approx. 1 kg (varies by mould)  ·  Difficulty Beginner  ·  Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 1–2 tablespoons Jojoba Oil
  • 30–40 drops Light Essential Oil Blend per 500 g base (optional)

Method

  1. Cut the Melt and Pour Soap Base into small cubes (approx. 2–3 cm).
  2. Melt in 30-second microwave bursts, stirring between each or use a double boiler.
  3. Allow to cool to approximately 50–55°C before adding other ingredients.
  4. Add the Jojoba Oil and stir gently.
  5. Add Essential Oil if using; do not exceed 3% of the soap base weight.
  6. Pour into clean soap moulds. Tap gently to release air bubbles.
  7. Allow to set at room temperature for 4–6 hours.
  8. Unmould and wrap in paper or cellophane to store.

Equipment

  • Heatproof jug or microwave-safe container
  • Soap moulds
  • Stirring spatula
  • Digital thermometer (optional)
  • Knife and chopping board

How to use

Use as a regular soap bar for hands and body. Lather with water and rinse. Store on a draining soap dish between uses to prolong the bar.

Storage

Wrapped bars keep for up to 12 months. Avoid humid areas; melt and pour soap absorbs moisture and can become sticky in humidity.

Safety

Do not refrigerate to speed setting; this causes condensation and a sticky surface. Allow the base to cool to 50–55°C before adding Essential Oils. Do not exceed 3% Essential Oil of soap base weight. Keep out of reach of children.
