DIY Castile Soap Multi-Cleaner Concentrate

One concentrate, endless uses throughout the home

One bottle, diluted differently, replaces five products under your sink. This concentrate is the backbone of a low-tox cleaning kit: hand soap, all-purpose spray, floor cleaner and dish soap all start here. I make a batch every few months and it costs a fraction of what I used to spend on separate cleaners.

Yield 250 mL · Difficulty Beginner · Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200 mL Liquid Castile Soap
  • 40 mL Distilled Water
  • 10 mL Vegetable Glycerin
  • No Essential Oil in the concentrate; add 15–20 drops Lift Essential Oil Blend per diluted bottle (optional, see How To Use)

Method

  1. Add the Liquid Castile Soap to a clean glass jar or bottle.
  2. Add the Distilled Water and Vegetable Glycerin.
  3. Stir gently to combine; avoid creating excessive foam.
  4. Label with product name, date made and your dilution guide (see How To Use).

Equipment

  • Clean glass jar or bottle (300 mL or larger)
  • Stirring spatula

How to use

Hand soap: dilute 1 part concentrate to 5 parts water. All-purpose spray: 1 tablespoon per 500 mL water. Floor cleaner: 2 tablespoons per bucket. Dish soap: use undiluted or 1:1 with water. Do not mix diluted versions with vinegar-based cleaners.

Storage

Store concentrate in a cool, dark place. Use within 12 months. Diluted versions should be used within 1–2 weeks.

Safety

This is a concentrate; do not apply undiluted to skin. Do not mix with vinegar or acidic cleaners as the soap will separate and lose effectiveness. Not suitable for natural stone surfaces. Keep out of reach of children.

What else is in this recipe

  • Distilled Water thins the concentrate to the right consistency without adding minerals that could affect shelf life
  • Vegetable Glycerin adds slip and skin-conditioning properties, and helps keep the formula smooth during dilution

I recommend trying it with Lift

A concentrate gets diluted many times over, so the scent has to survive being stretched. Lift holds up because it is built on Lemon and Eucalyptus rather than anything delicate, and what reaches the bucket still reads as clean.
